Healthy Students
At Haggerston we put an emphasis on healthy eating and enabling students to make informed health choices. Our range of hot or cold meals and snacks, includes both vegetarian and Halal meals. We encourage students to drink fresh water throughout the day and allow students to drink from their own water bottles in lessons.
Students in receipt of Free School Meals, will find a range of filling and nutritional, balanced options, including the hot food meal deals, that are affordable within their allowance. If you are not in receipt of Free School Meals but believe you may be eligible, further information can be found on the Hackney Education website.
To ensure safety, only Sixth Form students are permitted to leave the school site at lunchtime.
Free Breakfast Club
Students at Haggerston School start their day with a free, healthy breakfast thanks to a new government initiative. Haggerston School works in partnership with the Family Action Charity to provide a tasty range of food including cereals and bagels. The morning offering, provided by the Department for Education via the National School Breakfast Programme, is free to all students between 07.45-08:30 am every weekday in the canteen. Options available include Corn Flakes, Rice Crispies, porridge and bagels. Students do not need to register in advance and can just turn up on the day. Please visit the Family Action website for more information on the National School Breakfast programme website.
Great Choice, Great Value
To ensure variety, our menus work on a three week rotation and at just £2.75 the student meal deal, consisting of main course and dessert, offers a healthy lunch at amazing value for money. The published menu is subject to change, but in all such cases allergen information will be provided in the Canteen.
Our current menus are available to view here.
Healthy Food
From September 2024, Haggerston School’s catering will be provided by Olive Dining. Click here to find out more about Olive Dining.
Special Diets/Allergies
We are committed to providing meals for children needing special diets for medical requirements, where possible. Olive Dining (our Catering provider) work closely with their suppliers and aim to be as accurate as possible but it must be noted that they can only be guided by the information the suppliers provide, similar to the process of a parent catering for a child’s special diet.
It is essential that all parties concerned work together when providing a safe special diet and that this is reviewed with every menu change, therefore please ensure that you inform the school’s Student and Data Services (student.dataservices@haggerston.hackney.sch.uk) of any special diet / allergy requirements.
Online Payments
We strongly recommend that parents and carers use our online payment system to credit student dinner money accounts. This avoids having to send your child in with cash and allows you to view their meal choices online. Click here to find out more.
