What are apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are a form of employment where you will undertake a real job while studying for a formal qualification. This may be for one day a week at either a college, university or training centre. The aim of this apprenticeship is that at the end of the process you will hopefully have gained the skills and knowledge needed to either progress onto the next apprenticeship level or succeed in your chosen career.

This is a nationally recognised qualification and is more common amongst employers in recent years.

Different types of apprenticeships
  • Intermediate: Equivalent to five good GCSE passes

  • Advanced – Equivalent to two A-level passes
