KS4 Subject: PE and Outdoor Education
What topics will you study in KS4 PE and Outdoor Education?
All students will participate in PE for two hours a week. If a student is studying GCSE PE, they will have an additional six hour of PE lessons over a two week period. In core PE, students will learn more about the sports taught in KS3 with a focus on roles of leadership as well as exploring more advanced tactics. We prioritise participation ensuring all students understand the importance of physical activity on the body.
For the GCSE PE ourse specifically, students will study a wide variety of theoretical topics which include anatomy and physiology, physical training, sports psychology and the socio-cultural influences on sport. They will also take part in practical sessions which teach students about physical training.

There is no specific reading lists for this subject. Any wider reading 'around' the subject will be useful for students.
For GCSE PE, students will find the Peaersons Revision Guide useful in addition to any wider subject reading.
How will you be assessed during the course?
For GCSE PE, students are assessed in two written exams and practically assessed in three different sports (which must include at least one individual and one team sport). Students must also create a written piece of coursework.
How can you help your child excel in this subject?
Supporting with the completion of homework as well as taking an active interest in sports is a great way to help support your child's performance within PE.
